Paola Profeta

I am Dean for Diversity, Inclusion and Sustainability and full professor of public economics. I am also the Director of the AXA Research Lab on Gender Equality

I received a PhD in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra and a BA in Economic and Social Sciences from Bocconi. I have spent research periods, among the others, at Columbia University of New York, Nuffield College-Oxford, Trinity College-Dublin, CESifo-Munich, University of Edinburgh and USI-Lugano.

I joined Bocconi as associate professor, before I was assistant professor at University of Pavia and post-doc researcher at CORE-Université Catholique de Louvain.

I am member of the board of management of the International Institute of Public Finance and of the Women in Economics Committee of the European Economic Association. I am affiliated also with CHILD (Collegio Carlo Alberto) and CESifo and I am scientific advisor of UniCredit Foundation. I am part of the editorial board of International Tax and Public Finance, European Journal of Political Economy, CESifo Economic Studies, Economics.

I was President of the European Public Choice Society and member of the Board of the Italian Society of Public Economics.

I collaborate with the Italian Minister of Equal Opportunities in several committees and I am Italian representative at the Expert forum of EIGE.

I write editorials for Il Sole 24 Ore and Corriere della Sera. I am scientific advisor of several associations for the promotion of gender equality and women’s empowerment.


Research interests

My research concentrates on gender economics and policies, including women in politics, women in leadership positions and policies to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. I also work on public economics and political economics of taxation, pensions and the welfare state. I develop an interdisciplinary research interacting with different disciplines in social sciences, including economics, political science, demography, management and public policy.

Selected Publications

At the undergraduate level, I teach and coordinate the course of public economics for the degree in economics and management (CLEAM) which includes 8 parallel classes. I also teach the elective course Diversity Management and Policy.

At the graduate level, I teach the course of Welfare and Public Economics at the first year of the Msc of Politics and Policy Analysis. I also teach a short part of the elective course Welfare and Politics.

At the PhD level, I teach the course Inequality, Gender and Policy.
