Too Much Spending, Too Little Defense
by Carlo Altomonte
EU defense faces a decisive shift: the issue is not just how much Europe spends, but how fragmented that spending remains. Despite major investment, national systems, duplicated platforms, and weak integration limit strategic capacity. As the US redefines transatlantic security, Europe must move from cooperation to shared platforms, joint procurement, common standards, and integrated supply chains. Initiatives like EDIS, EDIP, and SAFE-inspired tools can support this transition, strengthening Europe’s industrial, technological, and strategic autonomy.
