The Invisible Value of Cultural Investment

Public funding for arts and humanities is often treated as expendable, but culture has economic, symbolic, civic, and social value. Cuts weaken institutions’ planning, legitimacy, and fundraising, while increasing inequalities across the sector. Cultural participation strengthens identity, civic engagement, and social cohesion. Supporting culture is therefore not just spending, but a strategic investment in democracy.
